Raffles Jakarta was founded by Dr (HC) Ir. Ciputra is an avid collector of Hendra Gunawan paintings. He assured the artist that he would establish a museum in his honor one day. True to his pledge, he opened Raffles Jakarta in March 2015 as a venue where Gunawan’s legacy can be realized. The daring hues and designs employed throughout the wonderful hotel’s stunning interiors reflect the artist’s fluidity of movement and passion for color. There are other works that articulate subjects from Gunawan’s paintings, particularly the beauty of nature and the charm of rural life. His hallmark artistic approaches include the meticulous intricacy of old trees and branches, as well as the dramatic curvature of people’s bodies.
