Shaun Wheeler, General Manager of Radisson Blu Resort Cam Ranh, has been nominated for Vietnam’s Leading Coastal Resort General Manager 2026. Across a career spent leading luxury hotels and large resort destinations in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, one conviction has held steady: a resort is only as strong as the team that carries it.
A Career Across Continents
Mr. Wheeler’s career took shape in South Africa with IHG, which later took him to Egypt as general manager. At Sun International, he led two members of The Leading Hotels of the World before taking charge of hotel operations across five hotels within a single resort complex, a scale of leadership that would define much of what followed. Area and multi-property roles came next, overseeing IHG and Marriott hotels and later multi-hotel portfolios, including a private game reserve. A consultancy in new business development and acquisition, spanning Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai, marked his first professional turn toward Asia, a region he would come to know from the inside, having lived and worked in Dubai, Malaysia and Thailand as well as South Africa and Egypt.
Radisson Hotel Group brought him back to the general manager’s office, first in Sandton, then at a riverside resort on the banks of the Zambezi in Zambia. There, more than 150 team members completed the group’s “Yes I Can!” service training, and the team joined the Keep Livingstone Clean and Green initiative, an effort he tied directly to sustainable tourism and responsible business.
A Coast Tested Early
Mr. Wheeler took the helm at Radisson Blu Resort Cam Ranh, on Bai Dai Beach, in October 2025. Within weeks, severe flooding struck Khanh Hoa. His first concern, as he shared at the time, was the safety and well-being of team members and their families, and he credited the unity of colleagues, the timely support of the owner company and the backing of Radisson Hotel Group for carrying the resort through recovery.
That early test set the tone for his tenure. He has championed Radisson Listen, the group’s channel for colleagues to raise ideas and concerns openly, and led the resort’s team on a team-building journey to Phu Yen under a message of his own framing: One Team, One Spirit, One Blu. His reflection on the return was characteristically plain: “We came to Phu Yen as colleagues. We returned to Cam Ranh as one team.”
Many Departments, One Resort
Behind the people-first instinct sits a complete operator’s toolkit: strategy, finance, revenue management, sales and marketing, food and beverage operations, and the owner and brand relationships that a resort of this kind depends on. Mr. Wheeler’s leadership rests on a simple observation drawn from years at large resort complexes: every department has its own role, yet guests experience a single Radisson Blu. Service, in his view, is delivered when colleagues communicate well, trust one another and move toward the same goal, built through small, daily moments rather than grand gestures.
The Coast, in Capable Hands
Few general managers arrive at a coastal resort with such depth in destination properties, from Leading Hotels of the World addresses to multi-hotel resort complexes and riverside retreats. In Cam Ranh, that experience has been matched by steadiness under pressure, a recovery led with care for people first, and a deliberate investment in team culture that guests feel on the beach, by the pool and at the table. Together, these place Mr. Wheeler among the most compelling leaders on Vietnam’s coastline this year.
On Bai Dai Beach, the measure of his leadership is clear: a resort guests love to stay in, run by people proud to belong to it.
