General Manager Mario Mendis: Vietnam’s Leading Resort General Manager 2026

Mr. Mario Mendis, General Manager of Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang, has been nominated for Vietnam’s Leading Resort General Manager 2026. Throughout his career he has held one conviction: wellness, like hospitality itself, only becomes real when it is practised every day by people who believe in it.

Built From the Floor Up
Mr. Mendis has spent nearly three decades in hospitality. The Vietnamese industry podcast Arrival describes his career as one built upward from the lowest positions. Food and beverage became his proving ground, first in Dubai and then across Thailand. Over those years he repositioned tired outlets, ran large-scale banqueting for royal and state occasions, and led a task force to open food and beverage operations in Sri Lanka. The work taught him the unglamorous mechanics of luxury, from rosters and covers to the quiet repetition that makes a standard hold. Vietnam then became his base, and he rose through senior operational roles to general management in Ho Chi Minh City before moving to the central coast.

Wellness, Practised Daily
His current chapter is Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang, which he describes as the new flagship wellness resort of Fusion Hotel Group. He led it through its grand opening on the coastline between Da Nang and the ancient town of Hoi An. The resort’s wellness-inclusive model goes well beyond the spa menu. Guests take part in daily mindful activities, receive personal guidance from Wellness Gurus, and share in rituals at Maia Spa & Wellness. Under his stewardship the resort has added the Maia Wellness Club community, a Floating Sound Bath for World Wellness Weekend, and Legendary Ladies, a culinary series that brings together women chefs, sommeliers and mixologists. The resort describes itself as Vietnam’s first WITT-certified resort. In its first full operating year, gross operating profit closed 15 per cent above budget, and guest satisfaction scores led its competitive set.

Purpose Before Performance
Mr. Mendis has set out his philosophy in his own words: “Ultimately, effective leadership is measured by how clearly we define our purpose and how consistently we integrate that purpose into everything we do.” He readily acknowledges that commercial results matter. Yet he measures legacy differently: by the people a leader develops, the communities a resort supports, and the memories guests carry home. He has written that the guest experience begins with supporting the resort’s own team. That belief has led him beyond the office as well, including a long-distance charity ride across southern Vietnam.

A Voice for Vietnamese Tourism
His influence reaches well beyond one property. He previously chaired EuroCham Vietnam’s Tourism & Hospitality Sector Committee and served on the Vietnam Business Forum’s Tourism Working Group. Today he is EuroCham’s Chief Delegate for Central Vietnam. On national television he has argued that Vietnam’s visa reforms must be matched by better connected transport, simpler entry procedures and stronger global promotion. He has moderated wellness development panels for industry leaders, and recently joined a Master’s class at William Angliss Institute to talk students through the gap between designing wellness and sustaining it.

A Standard Worth Recognising
His nomination reflects a leader whose path reads almost as preparation for this role. Years in food and beverage gave him the operational discipline that wellness needs if it is to be more than décor. At Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang, he has opened a flagship, reached a strong first full year, and turned a wellness philosophy into a working rhythm. Beyond the resort, he has become a credible voice for central Vietnam’s place in global wellness travel.

At Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang, wellness was always the promise. Mr. Mendis has made it a daily practice.
